About GHC
Who We AreOur History
For over three decades, GHC has amplified the voices of individuals and families striving for housing security. Our organization brings together representatives from the private, public, non-profit, real estate, lending, and construction industries. This unique collaboration allows us to tackle housing challenges from every angle, ensuring affordable housing isn’t just a goal—it’s a sustainable community asset.

Milestones That Define Our Journey
Our work is built on a history of dedication and achievement. Here are just a few highlights from our journey so far:
- 1993:Â GHC received national recognition with the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials National Award of Excellence in Economic Impact for our contributions to the Greensboro community.
- 2003:Â HUD officially approved GHC as a Comprehensive Housing Counseling Agency, a testament to the quality and breadth of our services to individuals and families.
- 2009:Â We launched the Homeless Prevention Rapid Re-Housing Program, reaffirming our commitment to ending homelessness and providing pathways to stable housing.
- 2021–2023: During the economic uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic, GHC helped keep Greensboro’s residents housed by distributing over $5.7 million in rent and utility assistance.
Today, we continue to expand our impact through innovative approaches like our nationally recognized Healthy Homes Program, which addresses environmental and safety issues in housing to keep families safe and stable.
A Collaborative Approach to Change
At GHC, we believe change happens when the entire community works together. We unite partners from diverse sectors—private businesses, non-profits, government agencies, and individual advocates—to create lasting solutions to housing challenges. Our comprehensive and collaborative approach keeps us at the forefront of advocacy for fair, safe, healthy, and affordable housing across Greensboro.
Why We Do, What We Do
Affordable housing is not just about property—it’s about dignity, stability, and opportunity. When people have a secure roof over their heads, they can build stronger futures for themselves, their families, and their communities. That’s why every program we develop and every person we support works toward one mission; ensuring everyone has a place to call home.
From our humble beginnings as a grassroots initiative to our recognition as a leader in housing advocacy, GHC’s story is one of persistence, innovation, and community-driven action. Together, we are not just addressing housing challenges—we’re building hope.
