On May 10th GHC will be honoring Carolyn Biggerstaff, please join us!
GHC is delighted to present Ms. Carolyn Biggerstaff with the Housing Advocate award. We honor Ms. Biggerstaff for her service as a humble leader, loyal and true to our mission of safe, affordable housing for all. When Dr. King preached about the drum major instinct in 1968, he was talking about the human desire to be first, out front, leading the parade. He warned that we should not let this instinct lead t…o destructive self-interest, but instead use this instinct to be first in all good things: love, justice, and truth. Ms. Biggerstaff, through her years of service, leads us all towards a more just, healthy, and whole Greensboro. She loves her neighbor. She serves on the “Dream Team,” which plans and executes the annual Housing Summit, convening housing advocates to stimulate new approached and energize old ones. She serves also on the Minimum Housing Standards Commission, Guilford County’s Commission on Aging, and the board of the Creative Aging Network, just to name a few of her community pursuits as a housing advocate. Her service to seniors in Guilford County has taken many forms over the years. Currently, as volunteer executive director of Share-A-Home of Guilford County, Inc., she is helping to expand alternative housing options for older adults. And finally, she cultivates the gifts of others through mentorship and by her example. When we “Band Together for Housing,” we could not have a better drum major for social justice than Ms. Biggerstaff.
